Full dentures are artificial removable appliances constructed to replace all teeth in either one or both jaws, and are supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissue of the mouth.
Full dentures can help patients in a number of ways:
In most cases, we provide digital dentures for all our full denture patients. The best approach will be discussed at your consultation.
Partial dentures replace several missing teeth in the mouth and can help stop movement of the remaining teeth. They can be either constructed from acrylic, cobalt chrome(METAL), and now more recently the popular digitally designed and manufactured high crystalline polymer.
Cobalt chrome dentures use a cast metal framework in a partial denture that is generally considered to be a more permanent appliance. Unlike acrylic (ie. plastic) dentures, cobalt dentures are usually supported and rest upon teeth which stops any damage to the underlying tissue during the up-and-down movements of chewing or talking. Cobalt chrome dentures are far superior to acrylic dentures because they are thinner, more comfortable, longer lasting and kinder to the health of the supporting tissue.
Our new
digital dentures made out of a high performance polymers are the future of partial denture. They produce similar qualities to traditional cobalt chrome frames, and offer a range of benefits.
Immediate dentures are dentures that are put in the mouth “immediately” after having a tooth or several extracted. It may be that the prognosis is very poor for your remaining teeth (as commonly happens with severe gum disease) in which case an immediate denture may be made. This will mean you will have artificial teeth immediately following the procedure and can resume with normal day-to-day functions and social interactions. Immediate dentures can either be made as full dentures or as a temporary partial solution to allow the gums to heal before proceeding with other dental solutions.
Immediate Dentures have a number of benefits:
Immediate dentures will not be suited for all patients, and we are happy to discuss your options.
We offer “same day” service for Denture Repairs and Relines. This is usually dependant on the complexity of the job, however many basic repairs can be completed within a few hours.
Relining a denture is the process of re-fitting the surface of the denture to the tissues of the mouth. Over time your mouth changes and tissues and bone resorb, meaning that your once snug fitting denture becomes quite loose and may fall out while eating or speaking. Relining an ill-fitting denture can have great improvement in the fit and comfort of your loose dentures.
Implant retained overdentures are indicated for people who desire a more stable prosthesis that improves aesthetics, function and speech. They are supported by, and attach to, implants placed in the jaw. The implants are designed to act as substitutes for tooth roots, and form a stable foundation for the denture. Implant dentures have a number of benefits
In order to create an implant retained denture we will be working closely with a dentist or oral surgeon who will be responsible for placement of the implants.
Every year thousands of people are treated for dental injuries sustained during contact sport – injuries that could have been prevented or had their severity reduced by wearing a custom mouthguard. The Australian Dental Association recommends the use of professionally made custom mouthguards to offer the best protection. We have been providing custom mouthguards for local sporting teams for many years and are proud sponsors of the Port Colts Junior Football Club for almost 10 years.

A Dental Prosthetist is a highly trained dental practitioner who is solely concentrated on denture construction and manufacture direct to the public.
A Dental Prosthetist has completed extensive training to become firstly a Dental Technician, and then to finally become a Dental Prosthetist who is registered with the Dental Board Of Australia.
Dental Prosthetists are professionals who you can trust. There is a good reason why so many denture wearers recommend their Dental Clinic – they appreciate the personal and expert attention that a Dental Prosthetist provides.
At Seaside Smiles you can be secure in the knowledge that you are being looked after by a health professional who has the most comprehensive knowledge of advanced techniques, new materials and the latest world wide trends in the fields of dental prosthetics.
Dental Prosthetists specialise solely in denture construction and manufacture, and therefore have more extensive knowledge and training in this field.
At Seaside Smiles, all laboratory work remains in-house and is carried out by either Natalie, our Dental Prosthetist, or another highly trained Dental Technician. This ensures that each individual’s case is handled by the person who will actually deliver the finished product, thus providing the best possible results with the minimum errors. Furthermore, we use only the highest quality T.G.A. approved materials to ensure that all products will last for the maximum possible time.
A full set of dentures will require a series of appointments – usually five to six.
This ensures that we achieve the best possible result and maintain our highest quality standards.
A properly fitting denture will remain functional for around five to eight years.
When natural teeth are removed, the jaw bones shrink rapidly at first, then more slowly for the remainder of the patient’s life. As this happens, it changes the fit of the denture.
Denture teeth and acrylic material also wear down over time which may lead to problems with chewing food. Some indications that your denture may need replacement are:
— Sore spots
— Looseness
— Flattened or worn teeth
— Over-closing of the jaw
— Speech difficulties
It is normal for new dentures to feel a little uncomfortable or strange at first. However over time you will adjust to your new smile.
In the early stages you may have some difficulty with speech or eating as well as a feeling of fullness in the mouth. Time, patients and co-operation in following instructions will help the facial muscles and lips relax and adapt to your new dentures.
Some patients may experience sore spots in the first few weeks, and if this occurs we urge you to call us for an appointment to have this attended to.
We recommend removing your dentures at night to give the tissues of your mouth a chance to rest.
We also highly recommend cleaning your dentures at night with a toothbrush and a mild soap or denture cleaning solution, then storing the dentures in a dry container. This minimises the chance of any bacterial build up.
There are several reasons why partial dentures are recommended, even for only a few missing teeth:
— Appearance and aesthetics
— Any gaps mean that the remaining natural teeth can drift, effecting your bite and causing tissue damage.
A removable partial denture fills the space created by your missing teeth and will fill out your smile.
You shouldn’t have to pay for advice or information, that is why we offer free no-olbligation consultations for all our patients to come and have a chat about their
individual denture needs
